The English Wikipedia has an article 'Zero-configuration networking', which has a section about 'DNS-based service discovery'. Some Unix, BSD, and Linux distributions also include DNS-SD. For example, Ubuntu ships Avahi, an mDNS/DNS-SD implementation, in its base distribution.
